Reconnecting Generations: Insights and Conversations from the 2025 Las Vegas Reunion

By: Luis Tiongko MD Batch 2013

The 2025 reunion in Las Vegas brought together physicians from different generations, creating a unique space for reconnecting, sharing experiences, and exploring the future of medicine. This gathering was more than just a social event; it was a vibrant exchange of ideas, advice, and stories that highlighted the evolving landscape of healthcare, "Filipino Doctor", and the enduring bonds formed through our shared journey while at CIM.

Reconnecting Across Generations

One of the most striking aspects of the reunion was the blend of older and younger physicians coming together. It was inspiring to see seasoned doctors sharing their career milestones and wisdom, while younger colleagues brought fresh perspectives and enthusiasm. This mix created a dynamic atmosphere where learning flowed both ways.

The older generation recounted their paths through medicine with pride, reflecting on decades of dedication and success. Their stories were not just about achievements but also about resilience and adaptation in a constantly changing field. Meanwhile, younger physicians eagerly shared their experiences navigating new challenges.

Conversations About AI and Medicine

During the CME activity, I was tasked with delivering a lecture on the important subject of "Artificial Intelligence in Medicine." This lecture sparked lively discussions about AI's impact on healthcare. Many physicians expressed interest and cautious optimism about AI tools' potential to enhance diagnostics, treatment planning, and patient monitoring. Meanwhile, others debated the risks of becoming overly dependent on technology. These discussions underscored the necessity for continuous education and careful implementation to ensure AI acts as a supportive partner rather than a substitute. It also emphasized that the reunion is not just about reminiscing but also about learning!

Witnessing the Legacy of Older Generations

Seeing the older generations meet again was a powerful reminder of the legacy we inherit. Their successful careers and ongoing contributions to medicine serve as a foundation for the future. It was moving to watch them reconnect, share memories, and celebrate the impact they have made. Their stories encouraged younger physicians to pursue excellence with humility and purpose.

Networking with Physicians Seeking Placements

The reunion also served as a valuable networking platform. Several physicians attending were actively seeking placements or new roles. Conversations about job openings, hospital cultures, and career paths flowed naturally.

This environment fostered connections that could lead to meaningful professional opportunities. It was clear that reunions like this do more than rekindle old friendships—they create pathways for career advancement and collaboration.

Reflecting on the Cebu Institute of Medicine’s Role

Throughout the event, the significance of the Cebu Institute of Medicine in shaping our journeys was evident. The shared educational foundation created a strong bond among attendees. Many expressed gratitude for the rigorous training and supportive community that prepared them for the challenges of medical practice both in the Philippines and in the United States.

This collective experience continues to influence how we approach patient care, research, and professional growth.

Looking Ahead to the Next Reunion

As the 2025 reunion came to a close, excitement grew for the next gathering scheduled for July 2026 at the Newark Marriott. This upcoming event promises another chance to reconnect, share new experiences, and continue the conversations that matter.

Mark your calendars and prepare to join a community that supports and inspires each other through every stage of our medical careers.
